Explosive Ordnance Disposal vehicles, also known as Bomb trucks, are custom-designed for professionals who detect and dispose of potentially explosive items.
This particular Volkswagen Concept is based on one the last 1303 Volkswagen Superbeetles. The rear Command Center conversion was completely fabricated for extremely hazardous duty.
A full complement of porsche parts gives a hint that this workhorse is built right. Ceramic Disk brakes and Porsche 993 Carrera Struts firm up the front. Reworked Porsche 944 rear torsion bars, control arms, and Koni shocks lower the rear end. Reinforced steel rims with bulletproof Michelin rubber fit the reworked front fenders quite nicely.
A 2300cc Type 4 motor, ceramic coated, merged exhaust with dual CB Performance 52mm fuel injection system provide more than adequate fuel to the big 103mm pistons.
Volkswagen Concept: B.O.M.B.S.Q.U.A.D. is loaded with storage. There are space for suits, disruptors, scanners, hook-and-line equipment, and more, B.O.M.B.S.Q.U.A.D. also features a dedicated area for a robot. A light-weight, easy-to-deploy ramp allows you to quickly take control of any situation. To add, B.O.M.B.S.Q.U.A.D. tows a bomb containment vessel.
B.O.M.B.S.Q.U.A.D. contains two workstations providing command and communications capabilities to your team as well as a safe, comfortable area to operate the robot.
A case based mobile system is included and provides high-speed connectivity. Both the Ground Control MSS .95 Meter and the MSST Toughsat .98 Meter systems can be deployed from this 3-piece container solution. The lighter weight makes it easier for a single person to set up connectivity. The MSST Toughsat is deployed on a reinforced aluminum pallet next to a 4U rackmount shipping case. The dish is secured to the truck roof.
The new EOD/IEDD Bomb Containment Trailer System was developed by US government Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts to enable relatively inexperienced operators to remove a suspect Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to a safe location where it can safely be examined or destroyed. The equipment is designed to safely contain and transport a suspect explosive object of up to 4Kg of TNT and up to 600mm x 800mm x 600mm in size. The unique design of the entire system enables it to be easily used with a minimal amount of training.
The Bomb Containment Trailer System consists of a specially designed bomb container mounted on a four wheeled trailer which is easily be towed. The container is made from two layers of high-strength, high-impact 40mm ballistic steel. The chamber space between the inner steel “sphere” and the outer steel wall contains sand, which together with the strengthened ballistic steel, helps absorb the effects of blast, thus enabling the container to be used repeatedly.
The Bomb Containment Trailer’s exceptional thermal and pressure-tolerant design provides high explosion suppression capability.
